Storyline PvE
Hi, I have recently joined the guild wars prophecies and am struggling, my highest char is level 10 - Ranger/Necro. But im at the Piken Square quests I feel like I have missed out lots of the storyline. Would you advise me to complete all quests before moving on??

I really liked the quests in old Ascalon so I would advise to do them all before advancing. Regarding storyline only the primary quests really matter and missions, side quests with few exceptions do not add much information to the game plot. Anyway you can always go back if you think something is missing later on. Have fun in prophecies!

Not only are those quests adding to the story, they also provide you with gold and experience.

Level 10 does seem a little low for Piken Square from what I remember though I may have stayed in Pre a little longer then normal (2 years ago who can remember). Primarily only missions and primary quest give the Storyline. While I liked the storyline, I like Nightfalls story better. I'd say the story really starts moving in the shiver peaks. I would spend a little time doing some side quests for EXP and gold get a level or 3. But in reality the game and story is still just begining. Pre-Searing was really just a tutorial

I'd go ahead and do as many quests as you come across along the way. They fill out a bit of the lore of the game, are a good way to gain XP & gold like others have said, and there are many quests that give skills as part of the reward. Without question, the skills quests are an important part of your character's developement.

First timer? You're not very far into the game yet - what I would suggest (and I actually did this myself three years ago) is, throw everything you have into storage, and delete/restart your character. Take every quest you can, and complete them before moving on to a new area (and keep in mind that sometimes new quests will open up in an older area once certain quests are completed), because while primary quests and missions do convey the main story, many of the quests do add flavour to the story, and fill in little details that make it more engrossing and interesting.
Plus, as has been said, the added benefit of the extra gold and experience from quest rewards. Trust me, at level 10, it won't really be a big loss to start over again - just remember to put everything in storage before you restart - think of it as a nest egg for your remade character once he gets out of pre-searing. |

As others have said the side quests are just that, but they're a good way to earn more gold and xp as well as make the overall story more engaging. (Also in prophecies it's very much worth it to do as many side quests as you can because many will reward you with new skills as well)

If you ran, DEFINABLY go back. Never, ever, EVER, get runs the first time through. If you did the quests, only go back if you like lore (i.e., background information - not storyline related but info on the rest of GW), else I'd say stick with the primary quests and missions. If you think your a low level, look at the henchmen. What I noticed is that the Henchmen in all areas are at the level you should be around when you get to those areas. In other words, you shouldn't be struggling, but you might need more skills/better build. So whenever you get new skills, always try new skill combinations, don't spread yourself out in attributes, etc. etc. And whatever you do, DON'T listen to trickfred unless you HATE your character name AND looks. You only miss out for Pre-searing stuff and you can make a second character easily. Also, if you are interested in lore (or just think you might be), I suggest looking through Druid's Overlook and go to the lore forum on GWO. And if you turn out to be a big-time lore lover, you could always join the lore guild (PM me if that interested). Always looking for new lore lovers. |

No offense, but I don't really care what you would or wouldn't do. I was relating to the OP what I did when I started the game 3 years ago, and realized that I had gone post too early and may have missed a few quests, and the potential lore to be gleaned from them. If he doesn't want to do it, I'm sure he won't.
